On the 22nd and 23rd of June 2016 the Association of Internet Travel Marketing (Verband Internet Reisevertrieb e.V., also known as VIR) held its innovation competition “Spring Board” for the ninth time. At the competition start-up companies presented their business ideas for the online tourism industry. The IUBH University of Applied Sciences supports the “Spring Board” competition as a long-time partner and sponsor.
From over 40 candidates, six companies from the tourism start-up scene made it to the finals and presented their innovations to a 40-person jury in Berlin. In an exciting final round in the start-up category, the young company get a camp managed to prevail with just a few percentage points in the lead. Get a camp wants to simplify the online process of finding, comparing and booking campsites. Their profile to appeal to consumers includes offering direct price comparisons, display of only those campsites which are actually available, and immediate booking.
The winners can now look forward to an attractive prize package worth over 35,000 euros. This includes an extensive research project with industry experienced IUBH lecturers and collaborations with leading tourism companies.
In the second category of the competition, “Established”, existing companies presented their innovative products. This year first prize went to a Berlin based technology company Interactive CMS for their Virtual Travel Lounge – VTL360.com. The company uses virtual reality eyeglasses to animate the experience of touristic destinations, for example by giving views of hotels and tourist attractions.
This year’s VIR innovation competition once again showed the immense potential of innovation in the tourism industry, which IUBH enthusiastically supports.
